Why Do You Want To Study Film And Television?

"I was one of the insatiables. The ones you'd always find sitting closest to the screen. Why do we sit so close? Maybe it was because we wanted to receive the images first. When they were still new, still fresh." This quote from 'The Dreamers' perfectly describes my reaction to film and television. I am one of those people, the people who have to be first to see the film or episode, we all know one of them. Sometimes, people would say that they prefer to sit further back and get the bigger picture, for me while this is important, the idea of being close enough to see the intricate detail of the film makes me feel like I am involved with the creation. That the film was targeted and created for me. This feeling is why I would like to study the creation of Film and TV which I have heavily admired so that one day, I can create something for another eager cinema goer who believes the art was meant for them and them only. The feeling that people of all ages can connect and relate to each other through one piece of media makes it clear how film and TV is now an important part of life which I would like to be involved in.

AS Media Coursework

Unfortunately, I am unhappy with how my year 12 Media coursework turned out last year. However, this has taught me a lot. I know the reasons why I dislike my work and what I can do now in year 13 to help prevent this. For example, one of the main issues was the music and the lack of footage. We overshot on the day but we still did not get enough footage meaning that when we tried to use quick cuts to imply the fight scene, we struggled with having enough footage. Furthermore, I feel like we definitely rushed the coursework at the end so this year my group and I are using higher quality cameras and editing software and are planning and filming further in advance so that we have longer to edit and the opportunity to get more footage.

Batman Teaser Trailer

I experimented with acrylic paint and stop motion video to create a teaser trailer for trailer research for A2 media studies.

I also made a corresponding movie poster on photoshop.

EMD WEEK

I was asked by my school, to do a Book Week video for the school to watch based on the theme of "Old favourites, new horizons". I worked with 3 other students and we organised shooting, used a Canon 600D and Adobe Premiere Pro.

Printing

In year 12, I spent a lot of time experimenting with different methods of printing including etchings and monoprinting. Here are my experiments and work that I completed using the theme of death and the afterlife as my contextual idea.

Vince Low Studies

These are my pen studies of Vince Low's illustrational work.

Andy Denzler Response

These are photo responses to Andy Denzler's work using both the dark room and traditional photo making to working over digital photos with acrylic paint.

I worked into these photos from year 12, focusing on layering. I used white pen and also photoshop to alter the opacity to achieve the faded effect.

Art AS Photo Set 2

I took these photos for my Art AS final piece to work from.

Art AS Video

Summer Videos

I created these videos over summer to experiment with editing software such as iMovie and Final Cut Pro and with different cameras, including a GoPro.

Life Drawing

Art AS Final Piece

For my final piece, I wrote a poem and used the greek tale of Melinoe as the narrative. This is done as a metal etching printed onto paper using ink and worked over in watercolour.

Hogarth Study

As part of my AS Art, I completed a study of William Hogarth's 'Satan, Sin and Death' using oil paint. To relate it to my project, I made the skeleton sketchy out of pen and acrylic paint.
